I'm alive!

3 min read
I've been attending Anime Expo and San Diego Comic-Con and working on my Eden-OCT round 1 entry, which is due tomorrow. Comic-Con's still going on, actually.
And that's why I just finished my entry... to enjoy a long, eventful day at SDCC tomorrow. I'm really glad I finished. I was pushing myself really hard this week, especially since my time to draw has been cut short by these two conventions, which happen to be the biggest conventions of the year for me.

As I was finishing up the 3rd page of the entry, I was reminded of marching band. Well, not because Arthur's a former marcher, but because marching band forced me to push myself to go beyond my limits. Which is what I did in order to finish this entry. To be able to keep going, no matter how exhausted you are. To see that it's still only 7pm when rehearsal ends at 9pm and you're already sweating, sore, and thirsty. Many people have told me that they're glad that they never joined marching band because it looks like hard work. But then I tell them that it's shown me that I can do my absolute best, and that's really fulfilling. As difficult as it was at times, it was worth the experience.

Anyway, this is my 9th year at Comic-Con. Honestly, it's been getting less enjoyable every year. Plenty of people go for the popular arts and the hype, not because they love comic-related things. It's changed quite a bit since I started going many years ago. But I always have a lot of fun checking out the webcomics, artist alleys, and other independent comic artists and illustrators. The artists at Comic-Con are so high quality. Oh my gosh. I love talking to artists and viewing their work.
I wasn't able to get into any panels yesterday, but I have a few I'm hoping to get into tomorrow! Then, I have a lolita meet up/picnic, which sounds exciting.

I'm really sad that there's no pokemon booth this year... it's the first time in five years where I haven't worked there. XD

If you want to hear how Comic-Con's going for me, just check out my personal tumblr. If you know it, that is! I don't mind if you ask for it.

AX End

1 min read
Edit: So I didn't log out of dA on my best friend's laptop at the hotel (she let me use her laptop on Day 0, that was the only time I used the internet besides through my phone) and she made this entry. So many hotel room shenanigans. Like uh, hanging bras from the ceiling lamp. If you follow my personal tumblr, you probably saw some of that. Ahem.
I'm back from AX now. Today was probably the most hectic and busiest of them all, but it's all over now! I'll post a full report with pictures and stuff later. I need time  to recover. (:

Hi, this is K.C.
We're at Anime Expo and Deanna is asleep.
I'm blogging from the bathtub.
Go find Deanna's booth at AX and buy all of her stuff, okay?
Also, find the Anime Conji booth and talk to Veveisme and AnimentalCosplayer.
Do these things for me please.

I have two videos for you. "The Edge" and "Starfish".

I apologize for my behavior for those who were in the Eden-OCT chatroom with me when match ups were announced. I am really loony. Heheh.
For those who missed it, I was basically screaming, hyperventilating, and laughing maniacally from being overwhelmed with excitement. XD That is also how I act when I go to DCI shows...

I like how the deadline for the first round is the Saturday of Comic-Con. Which is funny because in AatR, the deadline for the first round was ALSO the Saturday of Comic-Con. I had an exhibitor's badge that year, and I was in the exhibit hall at our booth early (around 7am) and sketched out my pages so I could ink them when I got home.

Anywho, be sure to check out Hexaditidom, my opponent! ^^

I finished my Eden-OCT audition in time for me to prep for final exams. This week is all about studying and packing. I'll probably be slow to reply to comments.
Right after finals is move out, then Anime Expo preparation all the way up until the convention. :I So expect some more fan art once I defeat finals. Err, excuse me, once I'm defeated by finals. I usually post up chibis and my convention progress on my art tumblr, if you weren't already following. ^^

I'm also thinking about changing my username. I don't want to be known as a Pokemon anymore, especially since I'm slowly starting to make a rep for myself through conventions. I do have an unclaimed username in mind, but no matter what I choose, I KNOW I'm going to grow out of it eventually. That goes for every single domain name I've ever purchased. And I definitely do not want to use my real name for deviantart.

The username I'm thinking of is relevant to my current interests, and who knows when that may change. Gosh, I wish I had some consistency with these sort of things. I can never decide on an online alias as they always change over the years. And I've been on the internet for what, eleven years now?

Speaking of current interests. My love for lolita fashion has gradually grown into an obsession and now I'm buying brand clothing with the money I've earned from my job... someone help...
I went and bought the most expensive skirt from Innocent World. >_< (and then some)

Summer hasn't even started for me. I have funny tan lines. My toes are white because I wear ballet flats. Yes, thought you all ought to know.

Anyway, hope all is well with everyone! I'll let you know where my table at AX is once I find out. I'm sharing mine with lene and ThePockyGirl. Partying it up.

I always have tons of music to share, so here's round one of awesome music.

Starting with music of the classical genre, then moving onto other kinds of music. These first two are ones I enjoy listening to while coding or drawing before a deadline.

Dvorak- New World Symphony (Mvt 4)
Era: Late romantic
This symphony is definitely very well known and often played. You may recognize it even if you aren't into classical music. It's a grand piece.

Shostakovich- Symphony No. 7
Era: 20th century
Ah, now what would this post be without dear Shosty? It's hard to pick a favorite Shostakovich symphony, but this one comes quite close. The opening draws you in, and DAMN. THAT FINALE. Possibly one of the most epic endings ever. Okay, that's a daring statement to make seeing as how there are plenty of boss symphony endings out there. What really adds to his symphonies are the historical/political contexts as well as his talent for hiding  meanings/interpretations within them. Oops. I'd better stop now because I could go on forever about this composer.

Khachaturian- Flute Concerto
Era: 20th century
Flute music because I said so. This... was actually a violin concerto, but then Rampal came along, being the bamf he was, and made it available for flute. This recording is performed by my favorite flutist ever, Emmanuel Pahud.

Eric Whitacre- Water Night
Genre: Modern classical- choral, orchestral
I don't have this album yet, but I plan on buying it with my next Amazon purchase. Whenever that may be.
This album features the LSO , cellist Julian Lloyd Webber, and soprano Hila Plitmann (aka Mr. Whitacre's wife). Too much awesome contained in one album.

Philip Glass & Leonard Cohen- Love Itself
Genre: Minimalist, operatic
I adore both Philip Glass and Leonard Cohen- Glass for his compositions and Cohen for his poetry. This song is an odd one, I know, and I don't expect many to understand or enjoy it. But for me, it holds deep meaning and penetrates the soul. So is the case with many of Glass' and Cohen's respective works. I got really excited when I found out that they did a collaboration.

Speaking of collaborations, Eric Whitacre says he might do one with Imogen Heap soon. I'm looking forward to that.

Arvo Part- Tabula Rasa
Genre: Spiritual minimalist
Arvo Part composes such fascinating music. It's so simple, yet so powerful. I don't think you even need to fully understand it to enjoy it.

Niia- Outside Your World
Genre: Not totally sure... classical influenced pop?
Niia's voice is heavenly. This song is absolutely beautiful and strangely describes my artistic muse pretty well.

Jang Woo Hyuk- Time is Over
Genre: kpop
All right, I know this song is "old" by now (especially by kpop standards or whatever), but it's still nice to listen to. Those are some mad dancing skills. I'm actually rarely in the mood to listen to kpop, but when I do listen to kpop, it's great kpop.

Jonathan Coulton- Want You Gone (Elegant Too Remix) (page goes to his music downloads page)
Genre: Folk rock
Out of all the music I've listed here, I've been listening to Jonathan Coulton for the longest. He's also the only musician out of the ones here that I've seen live. If you've played the Portal games, you'll recognize him as the man who wrote both ending songs. JoCo is mostly known for his geeky songs. c: And breakup songs, haha.

and then a life update thing

After waiting over a year in excitement, I saw The Avengers. Not getting over that movie for quite a while. It's such a great movie, ugh. What I enjoyed most about that movie was the characterization. I'd go on, but I'd rather not spoil anything. I'm a bit obsessed at the moment.
Also, the season 2 finale of MLP:FiM... wow. I was very impressed. Those were definitely among the best episodes thus far.

Expect some fan art from both! No crossovers, I promise. I'm also looking forward to the ending of this season of Glee! (Don't judge.)

Hm, remember how I said I was intimidated by my discrete math class? It turned out to be my favorite class.

Anyways, I hope you are all doing well! To those of you who are going to Fanime and AM2 (and other cons)... have fun and I hope you see you at AX!

Works in Progress
